For those of you who know us, you also know our home is looking a bit different these days. With the addition of two little nieces and a nephew, our home is sporting a lot of Hello Kitty, Legos, markers, and matchbox cars. But also a lot of laughter and snuggling.  And I REALLY needed a good excuse to pull out Goodnight Moon again. In the midst of all the busy-ness, we’re doing our best to embrace Alaska’s short-lived fall in all its burlap/caramel apple/russet~orange yumminess.During this season of change, may we maintain an attitude of gratefulness for all we have, and all we will be, in Christ.Happy Fall from our family ~ to yours :-)Jaimee

I couldn’t stand it another minute…I had to share my news with you:Today, I took a picture of a wall of windows.  And it was…… A SUCCESS.For those of you who don’t shoot interior room shots very often, I realize this may be very un-exciting to you.  And I get that, I really do.But for those of you who do: Either you, too, have finally taken the time to learn how to do it, or you simply avoid taking photographs which involve a sun-filled window during daylight hours (like I have done for way too long). This last Christmas, my husband graciously purchased me an online photography course through ShootFlyShoot and I’ve been giddy to work through the video tutorials of this course.  Just last week I finally scheduled an afternoon during which I knew there would still be light outside (our sun still starts to set shortly after 4pm)…

My plan today was to post about the metal stand Mr. Wonderful made a few days ago.Just one thing: some days don’t go according to plan.Just after twelve o’clock today, we received a phone call from a lady we didn’t know.  She was so sorry, her car had just hit a dog on the road by our house.  Our dog.  Our Cruise.  30 minutes earlier, I was in the middle of a chocolate bread recipe when I realized it called for applesauce and I had no applesauce.  I told the kids to sit tight, I’d run down the hill to the store and be right back.I was only gone 30 minutes.Cruise loves to go with me in the car, and when I climbed into my Suburban headed to the store, he pranced all around at my feet.  But he wouldn’t jump in the car.  I almost lifted him ~ he was just being silly…

This blog was conceived from my love of furniture refinishing, decorating, and all things design.Oh, don’t misunderstand me.  I still love those things…!  I can get downright giddy were you to come over this afternoon and talk furniture over a latte with me.  Matter of fact, whatcha doin’ around 3pm?But seriously, as much as I love design, we all know life is more than just pretty stuff, especially when you’re a wife, mom, sister, daughter, homeschooling parent, etc. etc.  In a previous post I talked about my desire this fall to focus on a few things in my role as mom, ie primary cooker/baker/menu planner/prep cook.  One was making my own bread, the other was trying new recipes.I’m happy to report that my first week of homeschool was a success in both areas.  Yes, we accomplished a heap of school work, too, but that’s for another day. Not only did I grind my own wheat for the first time…

LOVIN’ Christmas break, ya’ll. Delicious sleeping in, morning coffee by the fire, working alongside Mr. Wonderful as we tackle house projects together, long snuggles with my kids, and spending yesterday afternoon with these precious ladies: The two on the right and left are my sisters, and my brother’s wife is in the middle.  My sister Jody in the black and white is visiting with her husband and two-year-old from Washington and we are soaking up every bit of time with them that we can.  We love this girl! Jody writes an extremely creative, humorous, and often heartfelt blog of her own about family and DIY projects, The Gimlin Family.  What fun we have sharing ideas and talking “blog” together! The rest of the family still roll their collective eyes at us. This fall, one of Jody’s home projects was featured in a blog alongside a tutorial for Saltdough Starfish, so yesterday we thought we’d…

I just tucked three amazing kids into bed on this last night of summer vacation. Tomorrow night will be the first school night of the new year. But my goodness, we are READY: Let’s see, 3 boxes of 24 count crayons, 2 boxes 48 count pencils, 3 Fiskars scissors, 14 glue sticks, 5 composition notebooks, two boxes 24 count colored pencils, 2 pink pearl erasers, 4 boxes tissues, 2 containers clorox handiwipes…. Wait. Does anyone else shake his/her head at these supply lists?  I still remember my mom purchasing notebooks, folders, and a brand spankin’ new 64 count crayola box with built-in sharpener, but tissues and clorox wipes?   What is going on here? Anyway, back to readiness.  Not only are we prepped with school supplies, honey.  We’ve got the SHOES: Ahhh, can you just for a moment relish in the remembrance of new school shoes!? ~7th grade, white leather Nikes,…
