I am popping in to say hi.  After a week in Denver celebrating a dear friend’s 40th, I’ve had a difficult time reconnecting with All Mimsy.  Certainly not because I don’t miss it.  I do, very much.  I think it has more to do with nature.  Not my own, but the one outside.Since our return on Sunday, nature has been pulling me out..out…out…away from the walls of my rooms, away from my painted furniture, away from my projects, away from my interior creative focus. With the sun on my face and a spring breeze in the air, I have been raking, cleaning up fallen trees and branches around the yard, planning our landscaping for the summer, preparing my pots for bundles of colorful flowers. What a refreshing, much needed breath of fresh air.No worries, though, as I am already feeling a pull back to my blogging world.  I visited an enormous antique store in Denver and…

I had to pop in to say hi and let you know I finished one of my projects.Remember this little lady I rescued from my Mom’s deck last summer? Now here she is today after a little love :-)This poor chest was in rough shape for years.  A beautiful oak piece, she was originally a dark stain when my mom acquired her.  One painting mishap later which involved my older brother, a tall ladder, and an entire gallon of paint spilled in the fall, she never quite recovered and was being used as a serving buffet outdoors.  The exposure to weather, chill and damp had left her top deeply cracked.  In several parts, her finish was worn down to bare wood.  But I loved her :-)First, I filled in the deep cracks on the top with wood fill, let dry, and then sanded everything down as best I could.  Knowing the…

Do you know what this means? It means hallelujah….I’m motivated!….and I’ve got some serious painting ahead.  Whoa, is that a water-based stripping agent and a putty knife I see?  Yes, I believe it is :-)Here’s a little secret: I’ve never stripped before.  But I’m sure gonna give it a try, and I’m feelin’ kinda giddy about it.  It seems like a very grown-up thing to do, and since I just turned 40 in December, I qualify.Something exciting happened on Tuesday that has my little head all abuzz.  I’ve been debating whether or not to share it, but then I decided that the only reason I wouldn’t share is my fear that it may not work out.And that’s silly.  If this blog is a journey of beauty and inspiration, then sharing my inspiration with you is what All Mimsy is about———is what I’m about.  So I have to share. The reason I’m extra…

This morning, after a family breakfast of chocolate chip pancakes and bananas, then sending Mr. Wonderful out the door to hockey with the kids…….it felt so good to climb in a car all by myself (moms, I know you’re with me on this!) and head up to my own mom’s house to spend a few hours transforming her dining room table. This Thomasville table already has quite a history. My mom was walking through a warehouse 25 years ago and saw this table top, legs removed, lying upside on the warehouse floor.  Pulse quickening, she quickly scanned the area for the matching table legs, found all four, and nearly passed out when the man let her have the table for a song.Mom stripped the whole table and restained the top and legs in 1989, the year I graduated from high school.  I’ve always loved the legs and detail on this gorgeous table, and as…

What a beautiful weekend.Sister sleepover with pedicures Saturday night, pizza with family after church this afternoon, and a newly painted console table.Does it get any better? :-)My three kids spent the night with my sister Friday night, and with Mr. Wonderful away on a snowmachine trip, I didn’t have to think long about where I would spend my evening. At my favorite thrift store.  Of course :)Have you been admiring all the pickled, whitewashed and driftwood-style furniture pieces we’ve been seeing everywhere for the last year or so?  I love this Durham collection of tables from Ballard Designs:The whitewash wood complements the dark metal beautifully. Traditional wood with a twist…a bit of metal for that modern edge. Here’s another coffee table.  I don’t remember where I found this picture, but it’s been in my inspiration folder for awhile now:And, of course I LOVE this chandelier which we finally received this month after it sat on the backorder list since October:Here…

Unlike I promised last post, this post will not be showing my bathroom re-do yet but I assure you it will come soon! :-)I’m back :-)Can you believe I’m still working on painting my hallway?Yes, it’s true.  With Mr. Wonderful’s surgery, a daughter with strep throat, wrapping up our Bible study, and 3 family birthdays over the last two weeks, I have found very little time to paint.A couple nights I even took the night off and laid down beside my husband to watch Netflix.  We started a BBC series called “Wives and Daughters” and are really enjoying it.I am on a lifelong journey about spending my time wisely.About prioritizing my God, my family, my projects, my ministries.About learning how to really rest.  And more importantly, when to really rest. So as I sit down to post this afternoon, I realize my unfinished hallway has been a wonderful lesson for me.  In the…
