Dear friends, family, and those I yet have the pleasure to meet ~ I am honored and humbled you are here today.  With so many events, people, videos, texts, carpools, meal preps, exercises, and catnaps vying for your time, it brings me great joy that you paused here at my blog…if only for a moment.  After all this time, All Mimsy Home is still one of my favorite places to be, and I hope to be spending increasingly more time here over the next several weeks.  Why?  Because fun things are in store, that’s why!  But allow me to explain. Over the last few years, my blogging journey has careened from children’s bedroom design to paint colors, from DIY chicken coops to antiqued furniture, from parenting issues to hot pink bathrooms.  At every turn, these words and photos have reflected the beat of my heart and served as a gracious…

Why is naming things after food such a comforting delight?I finished painting a French Provencal dresser last week.  When the time came to describe it online, I discovered that serving up a little Oatmeal for the body and French Roast for the top elevated this dresser from simply pretty to a warm mix of comfortable and yummy.  Would you agree?Because the top was not solid wood but composite, I opted to paint it dark brown to mimic a stained top.  I was apprehensive because brown can often look cheap and, well, like you’re trying to mimic a stained top.Which I was…. :-)The first brown I tried was too light, so I did the second coat in Behr’s French Roast (ha, see where I got the name?)  This time it was perfect:I love how rich it turned out.  I sealed the top with 2 coats Minwax Polyurethane in Satin and the bottom with WipeOn poly. …

I am popping in to say hi.  After a week in Denver celebrating a dear friend’s 40th, I’ve had a difficult time reconnecting with All Mimsy.  Certainly not because I don’t miss it.  I do, very much.  I think it has more to do with nature.  Not my own, but the one outside.Since our return on Sunday, nature has been pulling me out..out…out…away from the walls of my rooms, away from my painted furniture, away from my projects, away from my interior creative focus. With the sun on my face and a spring breeze in the air, I have been raking, cleaning up fallen trees and branches around the yard, planning our landscaping for the summer, preparing my pots for bundles of colorful flowers. What a refreshing, much needed breath of fresh air.No worries, though, as I am already feeling a pull back to my blogging world.  I visited an enormous antique store in Denver and…

I have been asked several times where my blog name ‘All Mimsy’ originated and whether or not it has significant meaning.  The answer to the second question is no.  All Mimsy, in and of itself, does not have significant meaning, which is the precise reason it suited this blog.  I am one of those people who look for reason & meaning in most everything.  I long to understand the why’s behind events, actions, thoughts, speech.  Most often, once I learn the reason behind something, I am able to accept and process on a different plane.  A more logical plane.  And, usually, a more compassionate plane. The area of my life in which I create often defies reason and meaning.  At times I am motivated for no other reason than to express an urge deep within.  I do not understand the source of the urge, nor it’s persistency, but I am learning to listen to it more carefully. …
